Laptop Black Screen
If your laptop screen does not display any images, the following steps will help to resolve the issue.
Laptop battery issue
Battery errors can cause problems with starting the laptop and displaying anything on the screen. Although you can charge it at full capacity, a battery defect can interfere with the laptop's boot process.
- Disconnect the power adapter from the laptop.
- Remove the laptop battery
- Press and hold the laptop power button for 10 seconds to discharge any stored power.
- Connect the power adapter to the laptop again
.
- Press the power button to see if the laptop turns on and displays anything on the screen.
Operating system issues
A corrupted system file can be one of the main reasons for
this problem, preventing the operating system from loading and resulting in a
black or blank screen.
If it's a temporary problem, restarting Windows will fix it automatically. If
the problem persists, you should try to repair the operating system, and if that
fails you will have to reinstall Windows.
Brightness is set low or power setting
If the picture is partially visible, the
laptop's brightness is too low or turned down by a power setting. Make sure
your laptop is not in a power-saving mode by plugging the laptop into the wall.
Next, try increasing the brightness on your laptop to verify that it is not
causing your issue.
External display screen
Connect the laptop to a computer monitor and test.
If the monitor is working properly, it may be a problem connecting
your laptop LCD screen or motherboard to the LCD screen.
If the external monitor does not work, the internal
graphics card, motherboard, or video cable is faulty. You may need to replace
the graphics card or motherboard.
Laptop overheating
Check if the laptop is overheating. In most cases, the
laptop shuts down when overheated; However, it can only deactivate the display
by turning off the power to the GPU (graphics processing unit).
Another hardware issue
If the laptop still has a black or blank screen after
following the steps above, it could be due to a hardware issue. The list below
shows common hardware failures.
1. Loose
or disconnected cable.
2. Bad LCD
power inverter.
3. Bad CCFL or
backlight. (
4. Bad LCD screen.
5. Bad graphics card or onboard graphics chip.
6. Bad or
shorting-out motherboard.
