Troubleshooting no sound on computer
1. Check for
malfunctioning hardware.
If your computer suddenly
starts having sound problems, there is probably a hardware issue at play. With
the help of the following advice, troubleshoot
Check the speaker on your
computer
Simply glance at your
computer's speaker to see if there is anything covering it; doing so could
prevent sound from playing on your computer. Make sure your computer's sound is
not being masked by dust or fabric.
Check the headphone jack
To start, examine the
headphone jack. Check the headphone jack for any obstructions that can prevent
the headphones from functioning properly.
If there is, use a soft
brush or cotton swab to clean the jacks. To remove the dust and lint, push it
into the jack and gently swirl it around.
Check the microphone or
headphone
You can check your
headphones to verify sure the devices are functioning normally if your computer
is connected to them.
You can attempt to unplug
the headphones to hear if there is any sound. If so, there appears to be a
problem with your headphones, so you can swap them out for a standard pair.
2 . Troubleshoot
the sound issue
You can use Windows troubleshooter to diagnose and
automatically resolve the sound problem if your computer has no sound. Follow
these steps to do that
Open start menu
Type Control Panel and open
it
In the Hardware and Sound section, click Troubleshoot
audio recording.
Make sure to check the box next to Apply repairs automatically, and click Next to start troubleshooting.

right side and hear chimes
If the sound is not working, right-click on the default audio
device again, this time selecting Properties
Within the properties window, select the Levels tab
In the levels tab, slide the levels tab upwards and make sure that the speaker icon is unmuted
4.
Restart the audio device
If you have a USB audio device plugged in or are connected to an
external HDMI monitor with no speakers, it's possible that your speakers are
functioning perfectly but your computer is sending sound to the incorrect
output device.
In Windows 10, right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and
choose Sounds. Select the Playback tab and select the device you want to use.
If you don't see it, try right-clicking and checking Show Disabled Devices.
Select the output device you want and click the Set Default button. In Windows
11, go to Settings > System > Sound > All sound devices and make sure
the correct output device is selected.
5. Reinstall
your audio driver
The sound issue could also be caused by a faulty or incompatible
audio driver with Windows. To repair it, you can try removing and reinstalling
the audio driver.
Open start menu
Type Device Manager and open it
Double-click Sound, video, and game controllers to expand it.
Check the box next to "Uninstall the driver software for this
device" if a confirmation popup window appears, then click
"Uninstall" to delete.
6.
Disable audio enhancements
Disable any possible audio enhancements if you're experiencing
audio issues.
Open the start menu, type ‘Sound’, and select Sound Control Panel
item from the list of results.
The Sound properties box will open. Under the Playback tab,
right-click the Default Device – Speakers/Headphones and select Properties.
In the Speakers Properties box which opens, switch to the
Enhancements tab, and select the Disable all enhancements check box.
Now try to play your audio device.
Install or Update Your
Drivers
Open start menu
Type Device Manager and open it
Double click Sound, video, and game controllers
expand the menu to show all the possible audio output devices on
your PC. If there's a yellow exclamation mark next to any of them, that's a
sign you may need to find and install its driver from the manufacturer's
website. If not, installing the driver is worth a shot anyway.
You can also try
uninstalling the driver
Right-click the one you're trying to use and choose Uninstall
Device. Reboot Windows and it will attempt to re-install its generic drivers,
which may bring the speakers back to life
